    Your tail, your style

Maybe you're putting together a fox or bunny look. Maybe you've spotted a colorful braid and simply like it. With a tail butt plug, the next question is which size and attachment will work for you.

You might want one favorite tail, a few looks to swap between, or a model with movement and a remote. Those choices lead to quite different products, even when the photos look similar.

Let's work through the styles, the fit and the practical details, including what to have ready before your order arrives. You can follow the guide from the beginning or jump straight to the part you're deciding on.

    01 / The look

Find a tail that feels like your style

Adult silhouette in an opaque outfit with a flowing red fox tail.

Start with what you'd enjoy wearing. A full fox tail, a rounded bunny puff and a long pony tail create very different outlines. You can follow a character or costume idea, or simply pick a color and shape you like.

These examples come from our own range. The pictures show individual products; the collection links let you compare the other choices in that family.

    Fox tails

A long, furry fox tail gives you a full outline and plenty of visible texture. Natural-looking shades suit an animal costume, while white, ombré or rainbow options let you take the look somewhere else.

Think about the length as well as the color. Picture where the tip would fall beside your outfit, and whether you want that much tail behind you. Some sets include matching ears, like the example shown here.

    A rounded pink bunny tail

    Bunny tails

A rounded bunny tail keeps the look close to the body. It works well when you want a compact puff of color without a long tail hanging behind your outfit.

That compact appearance doesn't tell you the plug size, though. Look at the dimensions of the plug underneath the puff. Our bunny range includes different materials and designs, so choosing “bunny” is only the first part of the decision.

A black puppy tail with a curved profile

    Puppy tails

A puppy tail has a different shape from a full fox tail or bunny puff. The black example shown here is a powered wagging design, which makes movement part of the choice.

If that movement is what appeals to you, read the controls and power details before ordering. A tail that moves when you move and a tail with a powered wagging mechanism are different things.

Long, loose pony strands in several colors

    Pony tails

Pony styles put the emphasis on long strands. The tail becomes a larger part of the outfit, whether you choose a natural-looking shade or a mix of colors.

Use the stated tail length to judge where it would fall. Long fibers also need room when you store them, so think about where you'll put the tail when you're finished rather than folding it tightly into a small drawer.

    A colorful braided unicorn tail

    Unicorn tails

A colorful unicorn tail can be the starting point for the whole outfit. The example here combines several colors in a braid, giving it a different outline from loose pony strands.

Let the tail set the palette if you like, then keep the rest simple. You don't need a complete costume to choose a design you enjoy. The plug dimensions still deserve the same attention as they would with a plain tail.

Three tails and one plug base

A few looks to swap between

If you like more than one style, an interchangeable kit may make sense. The example shown has separate tails and a single plug base, so the change happens at the attachment.

Count the bases as well as the tails when you compare kits. Three tails with one base give you different looks to use in turn; they aren't three complete plugs.

    02 / The fit

Choose the plug size as carefully as the tail

Adult silhouette holding the end of a long red tail to look at its length.

If you already own a plug that feels comfortable, look up its measurements. That gives you a useful starting point. A “small” label on a new product may mean something different from the one you already have.

    Maximum diameter

The width across the widest part of the insertable section. Compare diameter with diameter; circumference is the distance around it.

    Insertable length

The length designed to go inside the body. Total product length may include the base or other parts, so it isn't always the same number.

    Tail length

The decorative length outside the body. A long tail can come with a compact plug, and a short puff can be attached to a larger one.

    Two examples from the range
    Product Widest diameter Insertable length
Pink bunny tail 1 inch 2.5 inches
White fox tail with ears 1.75 inches 4 inches

These measurements belong to the two linked products. Each model in the wider bunny and fox collections has its own dimensions.

White furry round tail attached to a reflective silver-colored tapered plug with a narrow neck.
The tail and insertable section are separate measurements

Look at the shape too. A wider body, a narrower neck and the base each form part of the design. Two plugs with the same maximum diameter can still have different profiles and feel different.

For a first purchase, choose conservatively and avoid sizing up just to get the tail you like. Our beginner collection can help you compare more approachable options; you can also find more buying advice in our plug guides.

The base must be flared and stay outside the body. The fur, braid or attachment isn't what prevents the plug from going too far in. If the base or dimensions aren't clear in a listing, ask us about that product before you order.

    03 / Materials

The fluffy part doesn't tell you what the plug is made from

Adult silhouette comparing fluffy and smooth material samples at a table.

Read the material of the insertable section separately from the tail covering. You might be looking at faux fur attached to silicone, metal or glass. They can create a similar costume detail while giving you a different plug to wear and care for.

    Silicone

Silicone can offer some flexibility, but firmness varies with the design. A motor inside a powered model can also change how much the body gives. Don't assume every silicone plug will feel as flexible as another one you've tried.

    Metal

Metal is rigid, so the shape and dimensions deserve close attention. Weight also varies between products; choose from the item's stated details rather than assuming every metal model is especially heavy.

    Glass

Glass is rigid too. Inspect it for chips, cracks or damage before use and follow that product's care instructions. The glass section and its attached tail may need very different treatment when you clean them.

    TPE and TPR

These labels cover flexible materials with different formulations. Read the item's cleaning and lubricant guidance instead of treating it as equivalent to silicone. If the material is unclear, it's a reasonable thing to ask about before buying.

You don't have to change material to get a different character or color. Start with a material and size you're comfortable choosing, then see which tail styles are offered with them.

    04 / Attachments

One favorite tail, or a few to swap?

Adult silhouette with a red fox tail holding a separate white bunny tail.

    A fixed tail

The tail stays attached to its plug. This can suit you if you've found one look you love and want a complete piece. Follow the cleaning instructions for the assembled item; don't pull the tail off to clean it.

    A detachable tail

The connection is designed to come apart. Depending on the system, you may be able to use other compatible tails with the same base. Removing the tail can also let you care for the two parts separately, as directed.

Tapered furry tail in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, with a black connector at the top.
Replacement tail only; compatible plug sold separately

A replacement tail is useful when you already have the right base. The example here is the tail attachment itself, so you would need the compatible plug separately.

“Detachable” doesn't mean it fits every other detachable product. The connection has to match. A snap, thread or similar-looking fitting in a photo isn't enough to establish compatibility.

If you're choosing a replacement, compare the available fox tail attachments with the base you own. If you're starting from scratch, a complete detachable kit can make it easier to see which pieces belong together.

    05 / Extra features

Vibration, wagging and remote control do different things

Adult silhouette with a red tail holding a small remote control.

A decorative tail moves with you. A powered wagging tail has a mechanism that moves it. A vibrating plug adds vibration, while a remote changes how you operate the functions. A product may combine these features, but one doesn't automatically mean the others are included.

Think about what you actually want to control. If you're interested in movement, look specifically for wagging. If you want vibration, look for that feature and its controls. You can explore the wider remote-controlled range if operating it from a separate controller is your main priority.

Before you order a powered model: find out how the plug is powered, whether the remote needs its own battery, and what's included. A rechargeable plug can still have a battery-powered remote. Wireless remote control also doesn't automatically mean app control or operation over the internet.

If you're using a remote with a partner, agree on how you'll pause or stop and keep the controls within reach. There is no need to choose the most complicated model for your first tail.

    06 / Getting ready

Give the first try some time and attention

Adult silhouette reading instructions beside a folded towel and pouch.

When your order arrives, lay out the pieces before you plan an outfit around them. Make sure you have the base, tail and any accessories listed for the option you bought. A kit with several tails may have just one plug, and ears or a remote are included only when the listing says so.

Read the instructions, inspect the plug and connection for damage, and clean the item before first use. For a powered model, allow time for the recommended charge and have any separate batteries ready.

Have a suitable lubricant to hand. Water-based lubricant is generally compatible with silicone, glass and metal, but follow both products' instructions. Silicone lubricant can damage some silicone products, so don't assume those two labels mean they're a match.

Take your time, use lubricant and never force insertion. Stop if you feel pain or notice bleeding. Choose an outfit that leaves the base and tail accessible, with no tight seam pressing against the base or fabric trapping the tail. Avoid sleeping with it in or treating “wearable” as a promise that it's suitable for all-day use.

For general safety guidance, read Cleveland Clinic’s advice on anal safety. If a plug gets stuck, seek medical help rather than pulling on the tail or trying to remove it with another object.

    07 / Afterward

Keep the plug clean and the tail looking good

Adult silhouette placing a red tail into a fabric storage pouch.

The insertable part needs thorough cleaning, while the tail may need gentler care to keep its shape. Taking a moment to separate those jobs helps you avoid soaking an attachment that wasn't meant to go underwater.

    The plug and connection

Clean before and after use using the method given for that product. Pay attention to the base and joins as well as the insertable surface. Use a compatible cleaner where appropriate, rinse as directed, and let everything dry fully.

    The decorative tail

Follow its own care instructions. Faux fur, long strands and braids may need different treatment. Don't assume the tail can be immersed, machine-washed or heated just because part of the plug is washable.

    Between uses

Store the clean, dry plug separately from other items and give the tail enough room to keep its shape. Keep detachable pieces together so you don't have to guess which base they fit next time. Inspect the connection again before use.

With a powered item, keep charging ports and electrical parts dry unless its instructions specifically allow the cleaning method you're using. A “water-resistant” description isn't permission to soak the whole tail.

If you're sharing a product, clean it between people and use a new barrier where appropriate; changing only the tail doesn't clean the plug base.

08 / Questions before you choose

    Tail butt plug FAQ

Adult silhouette with a pale tail holding an open booklet and gesturing.
Can a tail plug be my first plug?

It can be an option if the plug itself is an appropriate size and has a secure flared base. The animal style doesn't make it beginner-friendly. Start with clear measurements and a manageable design; you can also choose a plain plug first while you learn what suits you.

Does a bigger tail mean a bigger plug?

No. Tail length and plug dimensions are separate measurements. A long fox or pony tail can be attached to a relatively compact plug, while a rounded bunny tail can hide a larger one. Use the insertable length and maximum diameter when you compare fit.

Are the tails made from real fur?

Many listings in our range describe faux fur or synthetic fibers. Read the material details for the specific tail you're choosing; a photograph alone can't establish the fiber. The tail covering and the material of the insertable plug should be listed separately.

Can I swap a fox tail for a bunny tail on the same base?

Only when both tails are intended for that base. Some interchangeable kits offer several styles for one connection. A fixed tail won't work that way, and two detachable pieces from different systems may not fit. Send us the product links if you need help matching them.

Can I pull on the tail or use it to remove the plug?

Don't treat the decorative tail as a handle or leash. Pulling can strain the attachment or move the plug unexpectedly. Follow the product's removal instructions using its intended base or handle. If it is stuck, seek medical help rather than tugging harder.

How long can I wear one?

There isn't one wear time that suits every person and product. Follow the item's instructions, take breaks and stop if anything feels uncomfortable. Don't assume a costume photo or the word “wearable” means all-day or overnight use is suitable.

    Which lubricant should I choose?

A water-based lubricant is generally a practical starting point for silicone, metal and glass. Check the instructions for both the lubricant and your plug, especially with other materials or coatings. Our lubricant collection lets you compare the available options.

Can I wash the tail and plug together?

Only if the instructions allow it. The insertable material may tolerate a cleaning method that the fibers, attachment or electronics don't. For a detachable design, separate the parts as directed and follow the care guidance for each.

Do all tail plugs vibrate or wag?

No. Many have a decorative tail with no motor. Vibration, powered wagging and remote control are separate features. Look for the function you want in the individual product description, along with the batteries, charging and controls it uses.

Does a set include ears, a remote and a plug base?

It depends on the set. The photographed fox example includes ears, while a replacement-tail listing may have no plug at all. Read the package contents for your selected option. A picture showing several pieces doesn't necessarily mean every piece comes with every option.

Do I need a costume or a partner to choose a tail?

No. You can choose a tail because you like the look, whether you have a full outfit planned or not. There's no particular character you need to copy. Give the plug size and care needs the same attention as the style.

    Will the packaging be discreet?

Yes. Orders use plain, discreet packaging, with free 2-business-day USA shipping. You can read the shipping details before ordering.
